WHO'S BEHIND RADIO READY VO?
Radio Ready VO is a demo production service by Evan Marquardt, a recording and mix engineer with 15 years experience and nearly a decade at LA’s Voice Trax West. Joining him to provide directing services are several exceedingly talented voice directors who are devoted to their craft.

EVAN MARQUARDT
Producer/Head Engineer
Evan has recorded and mixed hundreds of spots and industrials, having been on staff at LA's Voice Trax West for close to a decade. Highlights include work for the Google Assistant, Netflix's Alexa Skills, Superbowl ads, and many more. He got into the business while studying music in college, and loved the variety that often comes with VO production. Besides VO work, he is a drummer (Carter Beauford is king!), music-maker, tech-nerd and travel enthusiast, and dog lover - especially his two boys Sake and Stewie.

The famed Upright Citizen's Brigade, The Groundlings, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, ad agency producer - Jenn has skillfully worn many hats and is an absolute "dee-light" to those around her! She's collaborated on hundreds of radio/television/promo spots and worked with some amazing voice talent along the way.

Via video chat
Evan and Artt meet with you to get to know you, discuss your goals for the demo, and create an outline of spots and characters. After the meeting, Evan takes that information to pull scripts and customize them to fit you. He sends them a few days before the recording session so you can familiarize yourself.
HOME STUDIO SUPPORT
Via video chat or phone to start
Evan assists you to test your setup, makes suggestions to improve connection reliability and sound quality, and makes sure that everything is ready to go for the recording session. This guidance is also applicable to VO work that you do from home!
RECORD
Studio-quality from the comfort of your home studio
Evan and Artt connect with you via a studio-grade audio feed over the Internet. Artt directs you using methods developed over his substantial career, and Evan records the results. The only thing you concern yourself with is your acting!
WAIT 3-14 BUSINESS DAYS
Editing and mixing
After the recording session, Evan gets to work - listening to all of the takes from the session, editing, laying in music and sound effects (using the same music and sound effects libraries used in current Hollywood productions). It is a detailed process and one that Evan takes seriously, using his years of experience and insight as a current studio recording and mixing professional. Once this work is complete, you receive your finished VO demo!

How long does it usually take to make a demo?We aim to make the process as fast and smooth as possible. Once we set a consultation meeting with you, the recording session usually occurs within 2-3 weeks, with the delivery of the mixed demo about 3-14 days after that. Pending scheduling, we can sometimes go faster.

How long will it take to receive a finished demo?We pride ourselves on having a very streamlined production process. After the recording session, you should receive your finished demo in about 3-14 days.

What's the process?We first set a consultation with you, Evan, and the voice director to learn a bit about you and decide the best way to showcase your talent. Then, we set a date and time for the recording session. A day or two prior to the recording session, we send you the freshly written copy for you to familiarize yourself (but we encourage you to not rehearse it too much!). Next, we do the recording session, which usually takes a few hours. After that, Evan gets to work editing, scoring, sound designing, and mixing your demo. When he is finished, he sends you a copy for your approval. And that's it!

Will I book work after making a demo?While we cannot guarantee you will book work, we draw from daily experience in voice over production to create a marketable product that we are confident will show you in the best light, in a way that will sound attractive to buyers and stakeholders.

Are VO demos expensive?In short, yes. But let us explain! VO demos are essentially a series of spots produced from scratch with similar care, expertise, and resources as full-fledged spots you hear broadcast on radio, TV, etc. Stakeholders in the industry (buyers, agents, and managers) have come to expect a level of quality from demos that match the quality of real work. VO demos are one of the biggest investments in an actor's tool chest. The goal of the VO demo is to convince the listener they are listening to actual produced spots. To that end, the process takes several days of full-time work, using skills honed from years of experience doing the real thing, all focused on that goal.

Do I need experience?We highly encourage you to have experience behind the mic before making a demo. A demo essentially captures a moment in time, where your skills are on the day of the recording session. Because a VO demo can be a big investment, we want to be sure that you are at a level where showcasing your talent is most beneficial. Thankfully, experience can be had in a variety of ways! From actor workshops, to auditioning on voice actor websites, to one-on-one coaching, there are many avenues.
